The mother of all Xperia 1 VI leaks is here to spoil Sony’s official event

The big day is (almost) here for the seemingly very few hardcore Sony fans who continue to care a lot about the company’s Android phones, but while you wait for tomorrow’s official Xperia 1 VI announcement, you can now enjoy… almost all phone details and features.

That’s right, it seems that the already often leaking device was leaked out even more On Twitter the social network formerly known as Twitter, leaving almost no important question unanswered before its official launch… except the ever-crucial question of pricing.

A redesigned design with “the brightest Xperia display ever” at its center

As rumored repeatedly over the past few months, the Xperia 1 VI moves away from the 21:9 aspect ratio that made its predecessors look like almost no other mobile device on the market. The new 19.5:9 aspect ratio is identical to what the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers, for example, which doesn’t bode well for Sony’s brand identity.

On the other hand, Xperia phones have always excelled in the display performance department, and this next-gen flagship is likely to be no exception, promising a “visually stunning” user experience with state-of-the-art technology “inherited from the esteemed Bravia 9” TV and a new Sunlight Vision mode for better visibility in difficult outdoor lighting conditions.

Very similar to the above Galaxy S24 UltraXperia 1 VI also aims to use cutting-edge LTPO technology to adjust your content viewing experience from 1 to 120Hz refresh rate and thus keeps things as smooth as you need in all scenarios and saves power when is possible.

Interestingly, it looks like the Xperia 1 VI will drop its predecessor’s industry-leading 4K resolution to Full HD+, which sounds bad, but should also help battery life significantly without affecting the playback experience much video in real life. While the exact pixel count is currently unknown, FHD+ phones tend to do a perfectly adequate job of streaming high-definition movies and games at very similar quality to 4K flagships.

Additionally, this downgrade could help Sony lower the price of its new ultra-premium phone compared to the extravagant Xperia 1 V, so you might want to wait for that piece of the puzzle to fall into place before dismissing the potential of Xperia 1 VI to appeal to masses.

Everything you need in a high-end phone and more

OK, maybe the Xperia 1 VI doesn’t look special or unique in any clear way, but it’s also not a crossover by any means. Reasonably priced, this bad boy looks to have what it takes to bid for the title of best Android phone in 2024, from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor to a 5,000mAh battery rated at a full two days of battery life (with the help of this thrifty but also high-quality screen) and three different 48MP cameras.

This is true, everything three rear-facing cameras are equipped with 48-megapixel sensors, with the secondary lens taking care of ultra-wide-angle photography and the tertiary camera supporting telephoto zoom technology ranging from 85 to 170 mm. In short, the Xperia 1 VI looks ready to capture the sharpest and clearest images and videos in almost all scenarios and conditions.

Of course, it remains to be seen how the three Zeiss-powered cameras will perform in the real world, and we’ll also have to scrutinize the new phone to verify Sony’s bold promises of delivering “unparalleled audio” performance. A new speaker module will take care of the latter aspect, and don’t worry as the 3.5mm headphone jack is amazingly still here to stay.

Weighing in at 192g and 8.2mm thick, the Xperia 1 VI isn’t really that different from its predecessor, while easily beating Galaxy S24 Ultra in both departments. Its “sleek” color options will include black, platinum silver, khaki green and red, though we highly doubt all four are headed to all global markets. No word yet on charging speeds, but we do know that wireless charging will be supported (unsurprisingly), and the same goes for battery sharing.

A “steam chamber cooler”, FPS optimizer, audio equalizer, game booster and 240Hz “touch scan rate” are just some of the technologies set to wring the best gaming capabilities out of the Xperia 1 VI Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, although once again we recommend you wait for our review before expecting too much from these fantastic-sounding but potentially deceptive features. Either way, Sony could definitely have a real winner here… if it finally gets the price right, which we should find out tomorrow.
