An AirTag with a new chip and improved location tracking is expected next year

Apple’s next-generation AirTag item tracking is on track to launch in mid-2025. BloombergMark Gurman reports.

In his latest Power Up newsletter, Gurman discussed Apple’s work on the next-generation version of the ‌AirTag‌, codenamed “B589.” Apple is currently completing production tests with partners in Asia, and the new item tracking tool is still scheduled to launch around the middle of next year. The new model will apparently feature an upgraded chip and improved location tracking capabilities.

In October 2023, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that mass production of the second-generation ‌AirTag‌ has been delayed from the fourth quarter of 2024 to sometime in 2025. He believes that the new ‌AirTag‌ will have some kind of integration with the Vision headset Apple’s Pro, but has not shared more specific details. See our AirTag 2 guide for more information.
