The Galaxy Ring price leak is sure to ruffle some feathers

Samsung announced the Galaxy Ring wearable in January and then gave us a better look at it a month later. Four months later, we don’t know the Galaxy Ring’s full feature set, price, or release date for the new health device.

Samsung has said that the Galaxy Ring will be available this year, and an official announcement is likely to follow. Rumors have it that Samsung will properly unveil the Galaxy Ring during the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 event, which could be held in mid-July.

But we don’t have to wait that long to talk about the price. The leaker claims that the Galaxy Ring will cost between $300 and $350, and that doesn’t include the monthly subscription fee, which could be as high as $10 per month. Some Samsung fans might not like the rumored price, but it makes sense.

Leaker Yogesh Brar told X that the Galaxy Ring will cost around 35,000 rupees in India, which translates to a price between $300 and $350. He said Android Authority that Samsung could charge buyers a subscription of about $10 a month.

I know it sounds like you paid a lot of money for a small wearable without a screen to a company that will probably sell you a Galaxy phone to go with the Galaxy Ring. I also know that some people would rather spend that much on a smartwatch. And you can get an Apple Watch for the same price range, though you’ll need an iPhone for it.

But the Galaxy Ring is rumored to be priced within my expected range. The cheapest Oura Ring costs $300 right now, and that’s before you get a $72/year subscription that unlocks more features. Smart rings are sophisticated devices loaded with sensors that constantly monitor your health. The sensors can be similar to those offered by a smartwatch, but have to fit into a much smaller body.

In addition, the smart ring should offer great battery life while having a design that is almost identical to the regular ring.

Finally, you have the software algorithms that make health tracking possible. Health and fitness tracking should be accurate. In addition, the data must be private and secure.

There’s also Samsung’s bottom line, which is also worth a look. The company is looking to expand its ecosystem of Galaxy devices, which could boost profits. An ideal scenario for Samsung is for a Galaxy S user to also purchase the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.

I’m telling you here that the steep entry price shouldn’t be that intimidating given how Samsung sells its flagship phones. I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung offers big discounts on the Galaxy Ring if it’s bundled with a flagship Galaxy S or Galaxy Z phone. I’m pretty sure it will happen.

Also, if I were Samsung, I’d waive the subscription fee if you buy a Galaxy phone. But this is speculation at this stage.

I write all this as someone who is interested in smart rings, even if I am a long-time iPhone user. I’m sure it will work well alongside the Apple Watch to help me monitor health and fitness stats around the clock. The Oura ring would also work well if it were more widely available in Europe.

I’d prefer the Apple Ring over the Samsung or Oura devices, but that’s another discussion. What I’m trying to get at is that Galaxy Ring users who don’t use Galaxy devices may also need to pay this subscription if they want more comprehensive data.

Whatever the case may be, the release of the Galaxy Ring is probably very close. And if this price leak is accurate, we’ll likely see additional reports confirming it in the coming weeks.
