Hot new Genshin Impact clone suffers major issues on launch day

Blushing waves is ready to eat Genshin Impact‘s lunch, if only it can overcome its login issues, performance issues, and overheating complaints. The free-to-play open-world action RPG hit over 30 million pre-registered playersbut now it is struggling to fix all the troubles these players are facing.

“We pay close attention to feedback from players around the world regarding any gameplay issues that may have occurred,” creator Kuro Games wrote on his website today. “We are committed to continuously correcting these issues through hotfixes.”

Blushing waves is an anime gacha game where players grind to unlock rare and powerful new characters. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, young warriors try to restore civilization while slaying evil monsters. The initial consensus is that it is very similar Genshin Impact, but with a darker tone and more emphasis on the deeper battles. It’s a fun game outside of all the current issues.

It’s currently taking advantage of being the new thing, though some players are already talking about the May 23 release for PC and mobile being more of a second beta than a true 1.0 release. “I think anyone who has gone through this replacement can attest that this game was NOT ready to launch today,” wrote one player on currently the most voted thread in the subreddit. “So many visual bugs, plain EN dubbing sucks, and other issues that can ever be seen on this sub.”

A a list of issues from day one on the Kuro Games website sums up the challenges: “lags, freezes, frame rate drops, device overheating, blurry graphics, crashes, or forced exit.” This is in addition to Unreal Engine 4 crashes and age verification issues on mobile devices. Summary of bugs VG247 shows an abundance of locked T-poses and graphical glitches ruining the appearance of the characters.

Players also have comments about the game itself. One lingering problem is localization quality. Like PC gamer reports, subtitles sometimes go off the edge of the screen, while some voiceovers sound really off. “Currently, our team is constantly working to fix and optimize the localized texts to ensure an enjoyable experience for Rovers everywhere,” Kuro games wrote in response to the feedback. “Fixes to some of the known issues with the current localized texts will be included in the patches that will be released soon.”

The company is currently planning a number of additional fixes, including improving the visual effects in combat to better communicate what’s going on and make the game easy to play with a controller. Perhaps most importantly for an RPG grindfest like Blushing wavesKuro is working on a way to omit more of the game’s extremely dense exposition and long story moments.

“We’ve received your feedback about the skip feature, including ‘not enough skippable scenes’, ‘the UI design of the skip button is not readable enough’ and ‘the main mission storyline feels long,'” the company wrote. “We plan to optimize your experience by introducing support for skipping all scene types in storylines and preview features for storylines and cutscenes.”

Current players will receive a Reciprocal Tides Voucher for a chance to get a 5-star character, as well as 10 Shiny Tides for additional character pulls to make up for any launch week issues. And despite all the problems, many still have fun between choosing their favorite characters and discovering how awesome the battle can look. Be careful Geninshin Impactthe mirror match may be just beginning.
