Nomad debuted the new Apple Find My Tracking Card with MagSafe charging today, here are our early hands-on impressions

The new Apple-equipped Find My Nomad Tracking Card makes its global debut today. I’ve talked about these slim card-style wallet trackers in the past, posted on social media how much I love them, and now one of our favorite Apple accessory brands is entering the space for the first time. It will be available to purchase directly from Nomad’s official site at any time, but be sure to head below for more details and some of our first hands-on impressions of the new Nomad Apple Find My Tracking Card.

Practical with Apple’s new Find My Nomad tracking card

The Nomad tracking card is in many ways very similar to what we’ve seen from other brands in this product category – an ultra-slim card with a built-in battery, speaker and Apple Find My technology that can slide right into almost any wallet, a minimalist a card holder or something along those lines.

Its print is basically the same size as your typical credit card or ID, albeit with extra thickness to accommodate the technology inside – roughly twice as thick as your standard bank card (86mm x 54mm x 2mm) .

Made of hard polycarbonate material, the tracking card features an IPX7 water- and dust-resistant construction with a hidden black finish. It has a flat black and very clean front with a very minimalistic ‘Nomad’ script in the bottom corner – it’s so small you can barely see it (and I love this subtle branding approach, as many of you already know). Nomad, on the other hand, has opted for something of a technical printed design, presenting a sort of subtle gray mock-up of the technology housed inside, which includes the small, almost flat pairing button and bell.

As for the setup here, it really couldn’t be more straightforward and simple. You can open the Apple Find My app, go to the Items menu at the bottom, tap the “+” sign, then tap “Add Other Item.” Press the aforementioned button on the Nomad tracking card itself and you’re good to go. You can name it and add an icon for your Find My card, just like any other third-party Find My equipment. The whole process was completely painless and took about a minute.

Once it’s up and running, it works just like any other Find My tracker, providing real-time map data of its location and subsequently your wallet, along with notifications left to your iPhone, so you can fix what might be a potentially devastating and super unpleasant situation.

Wireless charging of the Tracking Card – MagSafe or Qi

One thing I hate about some of the Find My wallet trackers is the battery charging and setup. Some of them simply won’t let you charge it, so despite the long battery life of some of these options, they’re essentially dead weight once the juice runs out. But that’s not the case with Nomad’s.

The tracking card can be charged wirelessly with any Qi or MagSafe charger. And you won’t even have to do it very often – it holds a charge for 5 months. While I haven’t had enough time to test this myself yet, after getting to know a few of them, I have no reason to believe the Nomad can’t deliver here, and I’ll continue with a few more hands-on impressions once I know with security.

There is a small LED on the card – it will change from red to green while on the charger to indicate the battery is ready to go. And as a quick side note, despite its MagSafe compatibility – it will stick right onto your floating MagSafe charging pad when your phone isn’t on it – there are no magnets involved here. There’s just enough metal in the lightweight design to stick and you’ll never have to worry about it demagnetizing your cards because of it. It seems like an inconvenient place to charge an item like this, but it works, and some people have flat MagSafe charging pads too – either way, the wireless charging solution you already have will do the trick.

Nomad Tracking Card Apple Find My

The new Nomad Tracking Card with Apple Find My is available for purchase from today via the brand’s official website for $39.99 shipped. It’s on par with my favorite option from KeySmart, which ticks all the same boxes in terms of feature set (here’s my full review of that one). While we regularly see deals on this model, Nomad has been one of our favorite accessory brands for quite some time, and its new tracking card looks like it will certainly give the KeySmart SmartCard a run for its money.
