Here’s What We Know Won’t Be At Summer Game Fest – IGN

Here’s the final countdown to a week of game announcements, trailers, updates, personal LA activities, and general shenanigans. One of the main fulcrums holding it all together is Summer Game Fest, a showcase organized by Geoff Keighley to bring the gaming industry together around the summer frenzy of video game news. But as he’s done every year before and other hosted events like Gamescom Opening Night Live and The Game Awards, Keighley is trying to temper fans’ wild expectations by clarifying some of the things that absolutely will not see at Summer Game Fest on Friday.

In a live Q&A session hosted on Twitch over the weekend, Keighley answered some burning questions from fans about the upcoming showcase, including a long list of not only what we should expect to see on Friday, but what you should not.

As for what’s to come, Keighley confirmed that we’ll see plenty of updates to existing games, such as Palworld and Kingdom Come 2: Deliverance. We’ll also see trailers for already announced games, including Supermarket Simulator, Monster Hunter Wilds, Metaphor: Refantazio, Batman: Arkham VR and Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO. He also confirmed that we’ll be getting something from Blumhouse Games and a new trailer for the animated series Among Us.

But in the interest of keeping the surprises to yourself, it’s no surprise that the list of what I will not there’s a little more:

No new GTA 6 trailer

Sorry, but anyone expecting another GTA trailer so soon after the last one needs to lower their expectations a lot.

No Kingdom Hearts 4

Cayley said that many people have asked him about it for some reason, but that those who expect such a thing are “setting themselves up for failure.”

Not The Wolf Among Us 2

No new news on that, but Keighley says he won’t be at SGF. Last we learned, it was delayed and the collaboration with Deck Nine to work on a pre-production script for the game was cancelled. The game is still in production at Telltale as of earlier this year.

No Def Jam game

This question came out of nowhere, but no, Keighley won’t be showing one.

No Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Unlikely since the jump given Keighley’s criticism of Konami.

Without Judas

We saw Ken Levine’s next game revealed at The Game Awards in 2022, but Keighley has no update on this year’s show. However, if you want to see more of Judah, we did an extensive review of the game on IGN last March.

There is no beyond good and evil 2

Keighley claims to know no more than we do about where this game went, announced way back in 2017. Even if it was announced during that time, Ubisoft has its own show where it will almost certainly want it.

Without Five Nights at Freddy’s

Help Wanted 2 came out last year, and non-VR ports are still planned for later in June, so that’s probably the main attraction in that universe for now.

No Hollow Knight: Silksong (probably)

Kaley didn’t actually say that directly, but when he appeared on the stream, he laughed and said, “I think it’s going to take a while.” So that doesn’t sound very promising. Don’t get your hopes up.

Probably no Nintendo games

Kealy didn’t specifically say that Nintendo won’t have anything at this showcase, but he did talk briefly about Nintendo’s continued absence from Summer Game Fest, despite historically being interested in The Game Awards, and his tone definitely points to another Nintendo no-show. Nintendo usually has some sort of digital showcase of its own in June, so while we shouldn’t expect anything at SGF, there will likely be plenty later this month. And SGF will almost certainly have third-party games available on the Switch…or whatever its successor is.

No musical acts, no Joseph Phares, no “something else”

While not specifically games, Keighley confirmed a few other items that SGF won’t be using. There won’t be any musical performances (except for The Game Awards), and the infamous Josef Phares won’t be showing up to make any snarky, cutting remarks. We also won’t get “one more thing,” sort of like the industry tradition where showcases end with a “and now we’ve got one more thing to show” remark from a host, followed by a massive, exciting announcement to wrap things up. Keighley doesn’t care about that trend.

So here’s what we know, leaving four days to speculate wildly about what we don’t know. For more information on how to watch Summer Game Fest, check out our guide, as well as our guide to all the other Summer of Gaming events.
