Elden Ring: Everything you need to do to access Shadow Of The Erdtree when it arrives

Elden Ringthe first and only extension of The Shadow of Erdtreefeatures an exciting new storyline with dozens of hours of gameplay to experience, but accessing it is no walk in the park, the data suggest that there are important steps that many players have not yet taken. If you want to see what the new challenging DLC has to offer, you’ll need to find your way to a well-hidden part of the main game and defeat a number of optional bosses, including one of the toughest in the game: Mohg, Lord of Blood.

If you’re on a new save file, you can expect to take between 15-30 hours to reach these optional bosses. However, those who are already well advanced in the game will have a much easier time getting to the required locations if they haven’t already.

Step One: Defeat Starscourge Radahn

The first big step you’ll want to take is defeating Starscourge Radahn. This optional boss is located in Redmane Castle in southeastern Caelid. However, it will only appear after fulfilling certain requirements, some more complicated than others.

The easiest way to unlock Starscourge Radahn is to simply go through the game normally and rest at any Grace location in the Altus Plateau. This will trigger the Radahn Festival back at Redmane Castle. While this is going on, you can go to the castle and make your way to the square, where you’ll find an NPC just up the stairs. Talk to him, then continue forward and down an elevator to a wide open desert arena. On the other side of the teleport is the battle against the clumsy Starscourge Radahn.

Since Starscourge Radahn rides a horse and can maneuver around the arena very quickly, you can also use your mount, Torrent, to match his momentum. The battle is pretty tough on its own, but if you’ve progressed through some of the many optional character storylines during your adventure, you’ll find summon signs throughout the arena that will get you help from NPCs.

With Starscourge Radahn down, it’s now time to head to Mohgwyn Palace to face Mohg, Lord of Blood.

Step Two: Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood

There are many ways to get to Mohgwyn Palace, but the most direct way is to follow the White Mask Varré questline. You’ll first encounter him early in the game when you exit Limgrave, but you can’t progress through his story until you reach the Roundtable Hold.

After you get at least one Great Rune (you’ll have at least one from defeating Starscourge Radahn), talk to Two Fingers in a room in the Vault of the Round Table. This will cause White Mask Varré’s location to change to Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Talk to White Mask Varré in the Rose Church to get a Festering Bloody Finger. At this point, you can either raid and kill three other players, or go to the Writheblood Ruins in the Altus Plateau, find the red summon sign for Magnus the Beast Claw, and kill him.

Regardless of which option you choose, return to White Mask Varré after completion. He will now grant you the favor of the Lord of Blood and ask you to soak him in the blood of a maiden.

There are numerous virgins whose blood you can use to soak up the Lord of Blood’s favor, but the easiest and least plot-impacting is a corpse in the Church of Inhibition. Go there, soak the item, then return to White Mask Varré once more.

White Mask Varré will give you a Bloody Finger when you talk to him again. However, if you talk to him a second time, he’ll also grant you the Order of the Pureblood Knight, which is exactly what we’ve been after all this time.

Access the Pureblood Knight’s Medal in your inventory and use it to teleport directly to the entrance of Mohgwyn Palace. Make your way through this new area until you reach a large elevator just past the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace. Take it to finally come face to face with one of the Elden RingThe most challenging bosses of: Mohg, Lord of Blood.

Mohg, Lord of Blood is a late game boss and should not be fought at low levels. However, if you feel prepared enough, equip equipment that improves your resistance to fire and bleeding. This boss likes to cause a bleed stack, so it won’t hurt to bring some consumables that can reduce the frustrating damage this can do.

Step Three: Enter the Shadowland

When you deal with Mohg, Lord of Blood, you will finally have access to the Land of Shadows. To get to this area, simply go to the massive cocoon at the very back of the boss arena and interact with the arm that’s hanging. This will now allow you to check out all the content that is only available through The Shadow of Erdtree extension.
