Everyone Overwatch 2 the player has a say in the balance changes and reworking of their favorite characters. Sometimes they are impractical power fantasies to make their core more powerful, but other times there are some genuinely thoughtful ideas floating around forums and social media. Blizzard gave a handful of creators a chance to remake one-off arcade mode characters into theirs eleventh seasonand some of the changes are so good that fans want them implemented in the main body Overwatch 2 balance stickers.
Community Crafted mode is available in the Arcade menu and allows you to play as retooled characters with new kits designed by Overwatch 2 content creators. Emongg, Leprosy, TQQand Eskay all made design suggestions for each character, each focusing on specific roles. Emongg handled tanks, Custa and TQQ split the damage heroes by projectile and hitscan sets, and Eskay rounded things out for the support heroes. The mode is playable from June 20th to July 8th, and while Blizzard describes it as “goofy” and “chaotic,” some of the changes are a net win for their respective characters.
Some of the changes like exhibited here at Overwatch subreddit, change the numbers around like increasing or decreasing damage, but a lot of them completely change the utility for the characters. Orisa regains the ability to stop crowd control from the original Overwatch, May gets increased mobility when she sprays the ground with her cryo weapon as if she were skating on ice, and Mercy’s revive now brings back an ally for a limited time only. Some of it is silly, but hidden among the excess are some pretty solid ideas.
One of the standouts is Eskay’s approach to Brigitte, which specifically concerns her Inspire ability, a passive healing ability triggered when she deals damage to an enemy. So if she swings her quiver or hits an enemy with her shield, she’ll heal teammates if they’re within a certain range of her. However, Inspire has always been a pretty difficult ability to read the terrain. A yellow pulse is emitted by Brigitte when Inspire is triggered, but the actual effect extends much further than the visual indicator and lasts longer than when it appears. Some people don’t even realize that Brig can heal in this way because it is so discreet. To help with this, Eskay had Blizzard add an icon that shows Brigitte’s portrait next to an ally’s health bar on their HUD, similar to what Mercy’s does when she’s actively healing you with her staff. This way, Brig’s teammates can tell when they are in healing range and calmly help her overcome enemy forces. It’s such a good quality of life change that I’d be surprised if Blizzard didn’t implement it in a future patch, and fans seem to agree.

“Some are wild and wacky, while others I think were really driven by what they thought would be good for the character. Like the Brig Inspire icon or the LW weapon switching speed,” CosmiqCowboy said on Reddit. “I’d love for Blizzard to implement him as someone at lower ranks where people think Brig only heals with packs […] I thought the same for about 2 or 4 hours after I first played it.
Not every change was met with universal approval, such as Junkrat’s eventual loss of direct player control, but the original intent of the mode was to create something silly, so none of them should have been popular. But I really applaud these people for taking this opportunity to make some light suggestions to help improve the game for fans to rally around (no pun intended).
