AMD Ryzen 9000

AMD’s next-generation Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” desktop processors are back online, and prices are much lower than the Ryzen 7000’s MSRP.

AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” desktop processors could offer insane value on the AM5 platform Based on the latest retail listings, the 9950X is €190 cheaper than the MSRP of the 7950X

A few days ago we reported the first retail listings for the AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” desktop processors. Now, a new retailer has listed all four chips, including the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X, available for pre-order with stock until August 2, which is just days after the official launch is scheduled for July 31.

According to the retail listing from Funtech, all four chips are listed with their pre-order prices, though we can’t confirm if they’re official or not. What we can say is that they look much lower than the MSRP of the Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” desktop CPUs at launch, so let’s start with the best chips first.

The 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X processor is listed for €659.90, which is €190 cheaper than the official MSRP of the Ryzen 9 7950X, which sold for €849 at launch. It’s also much lower than the Ryzen 9 7950X3D’s €789.99 MSRP at launch. To be sure, both Ryzen 7000 chips have since had a number of discounts, and the same retailer is offering these chips at €600.15 (Ryzen 9 7950X3D) and €550.18 (Ryzen 9 7950X). The pricing is much closer to the discounted prices and this will be great for new PC builders planning to switch to Zen 5 processors.

Next we have the 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 9900X processor which is listed for €499.90 and that is €170 cheaper than the official MSRP of the Ryzen 9 7900X and €180 cheaper than the official MSRP of the Ryzen 9 7900X3D. Once again, that’s a big price drop for the 12-core SKU, and it should be very competitive against Intel’s high-end Core i9 offerings.

Moving down the stack, we have the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, which is listed for €399.90. This is €80 cheaper than the Ryzen 9 7900X and €110 cheaper than the official MSRP of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors. Note that this CPU may get an update with a higher TDP of 120W as we reported here as AMD wants to show off the Zen 5 performance advantage in gaming and by raising the TDP they may just succeed in their popular 7800X3D which is one of the best selling processors on the market right now.

Finally, we have the Ryzen 5 9600X, which is listed at €309.90, and that’s also down €50 from the official MSRP of the Ryzen 5 7600X, which retails at €359. So if we were to compare the listed retail prices to the official MSRPs of the Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, we can see that there is a big drop across the board as shown in the table below:

AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” Desktop CPU (Funtech):

Processor name Advertised price Ryzen 7000 MSRP Ryzen 7000 (current) Ryzen 7000X3D (MSRP) Ryzen 7000X3D (current) Versus Predecessor (Non-X3D)
Ryzen 9 9950X 569.90 euros 7950X (€849) 550.18 euros 7950X3D (€789) 600.15 euros -190 euros
Ryzen 9 9900X 499.90 euros 7900X (€669) 399.81 euros 7900X3D (€679) 425.25 euros -170 euros
Ryzen 7 9700X 399.90 euros 7700X (€479) 331.54 euros 7800X3D (€509) 368.21 euros -80 euros
Ryzen 5 9600X 309.90 euros 7600X (€359) 219.12 euros N/A N/A -50 euro
  • Ryzen 9 9950X (List) vs Ryzen 9 7950X Official MSRP = -32.9%
  • Ryzen 9 9900X (List) vs Ryzen 9 7900X Official MSRP = -25.4%
  • Ryzen 7 9700X (List) vs Ryzen 7 9700X Official MSRP = -16.7%
  • Ryzen 5 9600X (List) vs Ryzen 5 9600X Official MSRP = -13.9%

We know these prices are still tentative lists at this point, but if they’re anywhere near the indicative final MSRPs, then existing and new AM5 compilers are in for a treat. It also means we could see similar price points for the next-gen Ryzen 9000X3D 3D V-Cache parts, which are expected to be released a few months after the “X” release.
