Hey guys! Fingers crossed you have a fantastic weekend. Right now I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends at home and I hope you can also hang out with your loved ones.

Today’s NYT Connections tips and answers come right away.

How to play Connections

in Connections, you introduce yourself with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb, or rappers.

There’s only one solution to each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to guess, the blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest to figure out. The purple group often involves puns, so keep that in mind.

Choose four words that you think go together and hit send. If you make a guess and it’s wrong, you lose a life. If you’re close to the right group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answered.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group – old saying (PROVERB, CHESTNUT, MAXIM, TRIN)
  • Green Group – Grill Fuel Sources (COAL, ELECTRICITY, GAS, WOOD)
  • Blue group – trees (ASH, CHERRY, EBONY, GUM)
  • Purple Group – Hot Tub Components (FILTER, HEATER, JET, PUMP)

Unfortunately, my last streak ended after six straight wins.

I removed the greens, then ran into a bunch of trouble. I thought EBONY, CHESTNUT, ASH and CHERRY referred to specific types of hair colors, but I didn’t even get the “distance” thing, so apparently I was barking up the wrong tree.

As it happens, I had no idea about the blues (though I should have brought them up) or the purples. I was on the right track with the yellows as I made the connection between ADAGE, CHESTNUT and MAXIM. But I’ve never heard of SAW in that context in my life. So a few random guesses in this group later and my latest streak is over.

That’s all for today Connections clues and answers. Don’t forget to check my blog for tips and a solution for Monday’s game if you need them.

PS The Saturday headliner at Glastonbury this year was Coldplay. They were a bit hit and miss for me after the first two albums which I really enjoyed. There are some great songs on the third record, X&Y, too. This one is my favorite of them (although I also like Lovers in Japan a lot):
