Applebee’s customers are outraged after being forced to leave a number on top of their tip

She explained what she had done, prompting the Applebee’s manager to ask the family to leave a phone number.

Dawn explained a recent experience that upset her and the other guests she was with.

The restaurant (@_dawnmontgomery) complained to X’s company.

“Hey @Applebees, we ate here in Laurel, MS. Before we, a party of 10, were seated, we were told that our waitress was new and afraid to wait on large tables,” she wrote in an X post.

The diner then went on to praise this server’s performance.

“We were patient with Melissa and she did a great job,” she said.

Dawn then explained that this service prompted her to leave a $150 tip.

“When the check came out, I gave this. Why did the manager make me leave my number because…” she wrote.

Dawn had assumed that the Applebee’s manager had taken her number to call the company and confirm that these diners should leave such a large tip.

“I have NEVER had to sign and leave my number because my tip was too high,” she wrote.

Dawn also claims she spoke to other waiters at the restaurant about the experience.

Applebee’s owner’s $1 deal strategy to save chains

“THEY confirmed that all the manager had to do was confirm the tip amount,” she wrote.

“It is. But no, the manager made a scene about it and tried to act like it wasn’t going to go through.”

Dawn also urged the chain not to contact her unless she wanted to apologize.

She shared a photo of her receipt, which shows their meal cost $278.49, and she left a $150 tip.

One X user (@twice_sifted) argued that the restaurant chain should appreciate this kind of action.

“Way to be thankful @Applebees people still want to eat there after most of their food is already heated and served from the corporate warehouse and then THIS?” they wrote.

“This is definitely not the way to end a day of fun, laughter and enjoying your family,” wrote another commenter.
