Nintendo says the best way to stop Switch 2 scalpers is to make enough consoles to meet customer demand – IGN

Nintendo said the most effective strategy to beat the inevitable Switch 2 scalpers is to make enough consoles to meet demand.

When the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, it suffered from limited supply, spurring scalpers who sold the console at inflated prices. In recent years, Switch production has been plagued by component shortages, making it hard to find.

Speaking in an investor-focused Q&A translated by IGN , Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said things will be different when it comes to releasing the Switch’s successor.

“As a countermeasure against overselling, we believe the most important thing is to produce enough quantity to meet customer demand, and this idea has not changed since last year,” Furukawa said.

“In addition to this, we are considering whether there are other measures that can be taken to the extent permitted by laws and regulations, taking into account the circumstances of each region.”

“Although we were unable to produce enough hardware for the Nintendo Switch last year and the year before due to a shortage of semiconductor components, this situation has now been resolved. At this time, we do not believe that the component shortage will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”

The most important thing is to produce enough numbers to meet customer demand.

In May, Nintendo said it would finally announce its successor console to the Switch “within this fiscal year,” so at some point before March 31, 2025. In a statement released on X/TwitterFurukawa finally confirmed the new console, but failed to name it or mention a release window.

In February, reports suggest that the Switch 2 has been delayed until the early months of 2025. As reported by Bloomberg, VGC, and Eurogamer, sources claim that Nintendo has told publishers that the Switch 2 was originally slated for a late 2024 release, but is now expected to slip until “March 2025 at the earliest.”

Recent alleged details of the power of the Switch 2 weren’t the first rumors about Nintendo’s new console. others allegedly leaked details have speculated that the device will include magnetic versions of the Joy-Cons and perhaps even allow players to use their old controllers. If these recent rumors are to be believed, you too will be able to enjoy your physical and digital games on the Switch 2.

Meanwhile, during the same Q&A, Furukawa answered a question about Nintendo’s security following a series of leaks ahead of Nintendo Direct showcases. These leaks are said to have come from people with access to the backends of Nintendo’s eShop website and YouTube channel.

According to Furukawa, steps have been taken to close these leaks.

“We realize that the resilience and security of information systems are very important issues, and we are taking various measures,” Furukawa said. “We will work with specialist vendors to ensure the security of our internal systems and the services we provide, and diagnostics to check for security issues and various initiatives to improve security on an ongoing basis.”

“As part of our internal information security structure, we implemented an information security management system in 2017 and established an Information Security Committee. This committee has established information management policies and takes physical and technical measures to increase awareness of information security by providing continuous employee training.
