Happy Thursday, folks! It’s a big day on both sides of the Atlantic as the US celebrates Independence Day and the UK votes in a general election. The latter won’t work out for everyone, of course, but it looks like 10 Downing Street will have a new resident by this weekend.
Today’s NYT Connections tips and answers come right away.
How to play Connections
in Connections, you introduce yourself with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb, or rappers.
There’s only one solution to each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to see the connections between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to guess, the blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest to figure out. The purple group often involves puns, so keep that in mind.
Choose four words that you think go together and hit submit. If you make a guess and it’s wrong, you lose a life. If you’re close to the right group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

My first perfect game in a long time helped bring my streak total to three.
CACHE gave me an entry point in the greens and ATTRACTION did the same for the yellows. I felt the blues was a bit clear as well. That left the purples (which I didn’t understand the connection to, but should have) for the win.
