Happy Friday, gang! The weekend is just around the corner. Heck, this will be the second day of an extremely long weekend for people in the US who chose to take the day off after the 4th of July. This is the way to do it.

Today’s NYT Connections tips and answers come right away.

How to play Connections

in Connections, you introduce yourself with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb, or rappers.

There’s only one solution to each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to guess, the blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest to figure out. The purple group often involves puns, so keep that in mind.

Choose four words that you think go together and hit submit. If you make a guess and it’s wrong, you lose a life. If you’re close to the right group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answered.

What are today’s relationship answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to figure out today’s Connections answered.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group – longing (DESIRE, LONG, PINE, YEN)
  • Green Group – Magazines (FORTUNE, MAD, NATURE, O)
  • Blue Group – Bond characters (BOND, M, MONEYPENNY, Q)
  • Purple Band – words that precede “pop” in music genres (BUBBLUB, EURO, K, POWER)

Back-to-back perfect games mean I now have four wins in a row.

I found this to be a very fun game. Obviously, the single letters in the middle caught my eye right away, while there were some clear red herrings (like the combination of YEN and EURO).

MONEYPENNY was a clear entry point into the blues, as was BUBLEGUM for the purple group. The other two groups required a little more thought until I understood the connection between LUCK and NATURE. That left me with yellow for the win, but I had never actually heard of YEN in that context.

PS Power pop is such a great, expansive genre, even though I think of it mainly as upbeat rock music. Weezer are among the best supporters, and while my favorite song of theirs will forever be “Say It Ain’t So,” I can’t help but go with this one:
