Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Update is now live (Version 1.0.1), Here are the full patch notes

Following the release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Switch in May, Nintendo has now released the first update for the game.

Since this game is a revival of the GameCube classic, this update is focused exclusively on fixes. It fixes any bugs and issues you may or may not have encountered when exploring and fighting in this world. Fortunately, these are all minor things, so there’s no need to worry too much.

In addition to some gameplay improvements, there are also some fixes for text issues in certain languages, as well as fixes for “a number of other issues”. Here is the full list of Version 1.0.1Courtesy of Nintendo’s support page:

Latest Update: Ver. 1.0.1 (Released on July 9, 2024)

Fixed issues
  • Fixed an issue preventing game progression where you could walk past the fallen tree on the Twilight Trail without first getting Tube Mode.
    • If this error occurred and the game was saved on the map with the fallen tree, you will restart the game positioned at the spot before you passed the fallen tree.
    • If the game was saved somewhere away from the fallen tree map after downloading this update data, please save to the save block on the fallen tree map, then return to the title screen. When you select the relevant data from the save data selection screen again, you will restart the game positioned at the spot before you passed the fallen tree.
  • Fixed an issue where the controls would no longer respond correctly sometimes after hitting an enemy with a field hammer.
  • Fixed an issue where battles would sometimes no longer progress properly or status icons would no longer display during battles in cases where players played for a long period of time without closing the software.
  • Fixed an issue where a fight against a Koopa Troopa hidden behind a clump of grass in Petal Meadows would rarely end correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the controls would rarely respond properly after using Ms. Mowz’s ability in the field.
  • Fixed an issue during battles where the player’s turn could sometimes be completely missed after using a double or triple dip.
  • Fixed some text issues in English, French, German, Italian and Korean.
  • A number of other issues have been fixed.

Dataminer “OatmealDome” also shed some light on the changes to the English text version. Here’s the summary (via X):

Track name “Searching Pedal Meadows” was corrected to “Searching Petal Meadows” in Sound Gallery.

When you check the rock where you place the precious skull with Yoshi as your partner…
1.0.0: “This rock looks like a skull!”
1.0.1: “This rock looks like a skull!”

When TEC explains how to break into Grodus’ room…
1.0.0: “there are guards outside the room not allowing entry”
1.0.1: “there is a guard outside the room that does not allow entry”

When Princess Peach explains what love is to TEC…
1.0.0: “you will do anything to help when that person is in trouble.”
1.0.1: “you will do anything to help when that person is in trouble.”

If you haven’t played the GameCube version or have been wondering what that famous Paper Mario RPG is like, Thousand-Year Door on Switch is the perfect time to give it a try. As we said in our review here on Nintendo Life, it’s a fantastic adventure with excellent combat, brilliant text, and now looks better than ever on the current generation of Nintendo hardware.
