Baldur’s Gate 3‘c seventh major patch contains some of the most significant additions to the game since its release and has been in development for several months. It’s finally coming to a PC or console near you in September, so developer Larian Studios made it happen collect update to whet your appetite, which breaks down some incoming changes, from the big ones like new endings and official mod support, to the smaller stuff like bug fixes.

Dynamic split screen, changes to Honor Mode and more

If you have played Baldur’s Gate 3 split screen (sorry Xbox Series S players, you can skip this one), patch 7 will introduce dynamic split screen, meaning that if two players are within a certain range of each other, the screen will no longer be split in half. This will allow you to see more of the surroundings without your split segments interrupting each other. Think how much better your screenshots will be.

Larian also makes some changes to the game’s very difficult Honor Mode, including giving more enemies powerful legendary actions, powerful abilities, or traits to add extra challenge. Also in patch 7 is the previously announced official mod supportkinematics for “evil” endsand some bug fixes for things like party banter not triggering under certain conditions. If you’re interested in trying out the mod tools early, Larian is now accepting registrations for a closed beta that you can sign up for On Baldur’s Gate 3Steam page on.

Every origin character changes in patch 7

On top of that, Larian confirmed that he deals with a few odd idiosyncrasies with most Baldur’s Gate 3party members including all newbies. This includes adding new dialogue in some scenes, adjusting animations, and even adding a few more manipulations for some characters. Here’s the full list:

Highlights of Will

  • Patch 7 includes a bunch of fixes for Wyll, ranging from improvements to his dialogue response to fixes for romance scenes.
  • If you had trouble triggering the romance scene with Wyll, this update will fix that. If your relationship goes that way, the cutscene in question will trigger when you talk to Wyll at the camp before the long break.
  • A bug that prevented his romantic greeting from triggering has also been fixed, so players in Act III who have a stable, loving and committed relationship with Will will now see his romantic greeting trigger correctly.
  • Fixed Wyll’s dialogue reaction during the epilogue for partner players who joined Karlach in the Hells or Lae’zel in the Rebellion, and also found that there simply weren’t enough opportunities to kiss Wyll during the epilogue. This update fixes this with the option to request a kiss in more paths than Wyll’s epilogue dialogue.
  • And if you’re in holographic form during the epilogue, it will no longer automatically assume you’re talking to Lae’zel, which was weird.

Astarion highlights

  • In Patch 7, we made improvements to your character’s facial animations during some cinematic kiss scenes, including with the ascended Astarion.
  • We’ve also made changes to how Origin characters react in certain cutscenes to improve their emotional impact. For example, the companions will show more empathy towards Astarion when he loses his ability to withstand sunlight.

Lae’zel Highlights

  • Lae’zel will now wait a little longer at her recruitment site if you tell her you’ll be back. And once she settles into camp, she’ll also go through more varied idle animations.
  • This update will also end an annoying issue where resurrecting Lae’zel on the beach in Act I would cause her to appear in the Party Line but not in the world, blocking you from leaving Act I.

Carluch Accents

  • Along with some more general fixes for Karlach, she will now react to Dammon if she finds him dead after he tells her he can help her.
  • That sketchy fade to black that follows her final scene in Avernus, which also inadvertently gave you a very brief glimpse of the region in game mode, was a visual bug that was also fixed.
  • The dialogue block caused by choosing to stay with another companion the morning after your second romance scene with Karlach is no longer there.
  • Also, she will no longer brush the shaved side of her head during her camp animation. Wrong side, Karlach.

Gail Accents

  • With a few tweaks to camera angles and tweaks to popup animations, repetitive dialogue and missing VFX, we’ve refined Gale and his scenes and further refined his donation UI.
  • That panel that opens when donating magical items to Gale? This will now show all items that are eligible for donation – including those on your person, your party’s inventory, and your traveler’s chest.
  • This is part of the work that began with Hotfix #16 to improve the donation UI and update the player’s ability to access certain items related to missions, which has now been completed. We are restoring the intended behavior that was removed in hotfix #17 as a temporary bugfix for missing UI functionality. So if you now deny Gale a magic item three times in a row with magic items either on you, in your party’s inventory, or now from your traveler’s chest, he will leave your party.
  • Another option is to select “I give you nothing. Not now, never” will again cause Gale to leave your party for good.
  • We also fixed a bug that prevented the final dialogue between Gale and Mystra from triggering, as well as an end-game scene that would cut off before you could kiss.

Shadowheart Highlights

  • In addition to fixing some of her animation bugs, this update fixes a number of quest issues for Shadowheart.
  • A bug that saw the Spear of Night either not being obtained, or being talked about as if it was no longer acquired, no longer exists. Another bout of amnesia has also been fixed where Shadowheart would occasionally think Viconia was still alive after killing her. The Daughter of Darkness quest should now end correctly if you choose to hand over Shadowheart to Viconia.
  • And yes, we changed a few kiss scenes for her as well, fixed a broken romance scene that was supposed to trigger after giving Shadowheart the Idol of Shar, and a kiss animation that would no longer play before the option to dialogue. We’ve also polished the look of the neck kiss. In the words of Michelangelo, no great work of art is finished, and neither is our approach to the art of screwing up.

Patch 7 is still two months away, but Larian says that’s not the case Baldur’s Gate 3The latest update as the studio looks to add cross-play multiplayer and a photo mode, all of which will come as part of a later patch. All these new changes sound great, but I’ll probably wait until the photo mode is added to go back because I’m sick of screenshots.
