The 20 best Prime Day speaker deals we reviewed in 2024

I’m a big fan of the portable Bluetooth speakers I bought after reading Engadget — I just wish I’d bought mine for $90 instead of paying full price. Thanks to Amazon’s Prime Day, more than a dozen soundbars, smart speakers, and portable players we recommend are on sale, and some are at the best prices we’ve seen yet. We’ve rounded up every speaker from our reviews that Amazon is discounting right now. Here are the best Prime Day speaker deals.

As with all of Engadget’s tech deal coverage, we only highlight discounts on gear that we’ve tested or otherwise used and know is worth your money. We’ve scoured our guides and reviews with the Prime Day deals Amazon has to offer to come up with what you see here. And we’ll be updating these deal roundups throughout the two days of Amazon’s Prime Day sale.

Sonos

The Sonos Roam 2 is on sale for the first time thanks to Prime Day. It was listed for $179, but is currently down to $143. This second Roam speaker fixes some of the issues that plagued the first generation, such as giving it a separate power button and letting you connect to Bluetooth without going through Wi-Fi setup first.

It has the same internals as the first iteration, which impressed us with its great sound quality — the highs and mids are clear, and it delivers “more bass than you’d think” from such a small speaker.

Another of our recommended Sonos speakers, the Era 100, retails for $199. That’s a solid $50 off list price and matches the low price we’ve seen during previous sales. We called this the best midrange smart speaker you can buy, thanks to its excellent sound quality that manages to get loud enough to fill a room. We also like the extra options that line input and Bluetooth connectivity give you.

In second place for a mid-range soundbar is the Sonos Ray. It doesn’t come with a subwoofer, but it still manages to pump out plenty of bass. We also like that it’s easy to set up and provides good sound quality for both TV and music. One of our hesitations was the $279 price tag for a speakerless speaker, but now that it’s dropped to a new low of $219, that’s much less of an issue.

If you’re looking for a Sonos subwoofer to go with your new soundbar, check out the Prime Day price on the Sub Mini. It’s down to $343, which is a 20 percent discount and matches the low price we saw earlier this year.

In our review when the Sub Mini came out in late 2022, we called it “the practical sub we’ve been waiting for.” We were impressed with the way it boosted the sound, but it’s much more affordable than Sono’s pro-grade subwoofers.

The redesigned Echo Spot came out just before Prime Day and was immediately 44 percent off. It’s now $45 instead of the $80 MSRP, and if history is any indicator, we expect the price of most Amazon devices to return to normal once the sale ends.

The Spot originally came out in 2017 but was discontinued. This new version is half screen/half speaker which allows for louder sound with a display that can show you the time and the time as well as the title of the song being played.

The Echo Dot is our pick for the best smart speaker under $50, and it’s also the most popular of Amazon’s speakers. The audio is surprisingly loud and of pretty decent quality considering it’s a small sphere the size of a baseball.

Like all Alexa-enabled products, it can control your smart home devices, tell you the weather, and more. The price is half off from $50 for Prime Day, bringing it down to $25, or about $2 more than the lowest price ever.

It’s no surprise that most, if not all, of Amazon’s own devices are on sale. This includes the latest generation Amazon Echo, which now costs $55 instead of $100. The sale puts it about $5 above its all-time low.

It’s our favorite smart speaker under $100 because it’s louder than its competition (Apple’s HomePod and Google’s Nest Audio) and has stronger bass. It also gives you access to Alexa, which can tell you the news and weather, remind you of your tasks, and control your smart home devices just by speaking.

The Echo Pop is the smallest speaker in which Amazon has incorporated the help of Alexa. And for Prime Day, a halved sphere will cost you $18 instead of the full $40. This is the same low price we’ve seen during Black Friday and other past sales. The smaller size is perfect for smaller spaces like dorms, bathrooms, and small kitchens, where it can play bossa nova while you cook and tell you how many tablespoons are in a cup.

After reading Engadget’s fairly in-depth coverage of Bluetooth speakers, I settled on and was very pleased with the sound quality and battery life. It also works just about anywhere, thanks to its ability to sound good while sitting on its end or lying horizontally. Bluetooth connectivity is almost foolproof and the range is impressive. Now that it’s $40 off list price and down to $90, I’m tempted to pick up another one (especially since you can sync two speakers for stereo sound).

The Anker Soundcore Motion 300 is on sale at a new all-time Prime Day price. Listed at $80, now only $60. It’s another recommendation in our Bluetooth speaker guide because we liked the combination of great sound, affordable price, and small size. The Anker Soundcore app lets you easily customize EQ settings, and the IPX7 rating means it can handle being submerged in water.

The slightly larger Soundcore Motion+ made our list thanks to its solid, weatherproof construction and good sound. It weighs over two kilograms, so it’s not the most portable speaker on the market, but the sound quality makes up for the weight.

There’s even a 3.5mm aux input for wired connections. The Motion+ will run for up to 12 hours on a charge, and right now you can get one for $70, or 30 percent off. This matches its all-time low price.

With the clutch shape, it hit a new low price of $99 for Prime Day. That’s $50 off list price and over the previous low of $20. Just keep in mind that the full discount only applies to the blue and floral colors. If you want it, you’ll pay $129 instead. It made the cut in our Bluetooth speaker guide because it delivers impressive bass for its size and has a premium look.

It retails for $319, or about $20 more than the lowest price we saw a few years ago. For reference, list price is $399. This is a good option if you want a home smart speaker with high-quality sound that can sometimes go outside.

The IPX4 water resistance isn’t very strong, and the 2.3-pound weight means it’s not the lightest to carry around. But if you need a speaker that provides the help of Alexa and/or Google Assistant while playing your music, this is a good bet.

Ultimate Ears

The new release of UE’s barrel-shaped speaker, the Wonderboom 4, is seeing its first Prime Day discount. It’s currently down to $80, which is $29 off the $100 list price. We haven’t had the chance to review this one yet, but judging by how much we liked its predecessor, there’s a good chance the powerful sound will impress. It’s also waterproof and the battery life is now two hours longer at 14 hours.

Ultimate Ears

Ultimate Ears’ Epicboom came out late last year and is a bit smaller than the brand’s Hyperboom speaker, but in our experience it still puts out a good amount of sound. In fact, what we appreciated most about the speaker was its balance of power and portability. There’s a strap on the side that stays fixed with magnets, and the waterproof rating means it can handle a dip in the pool.

The four-pound speaker is currently down to $270 thanks to Amazon’s sale. That’s 23 percent off and appears to be a new lowest price ever.

At the small end of the Ultimate Ears size spectrum is the Wonderboom 3. We put this one on our list of best Bluetooth speakers because it’s small but mighty, delivering the loudest sound of any speaker we’ve tested in its size range. It has a cute barrel shape, lasts up to 14 hours on a charge, and not only is it IP67 waterproof, it also floats. Several different colors are currently priced at $57, 40 percent off the $100 MSRP, matching an all-time low.

It retails for $120, which is a $50 discount and a price we’ve seen quite a bit over the last year. This newer version of the Emberton clutch delivers the brand’s signature sound that focuses more on balanced power than raw power. The battery can last up to 30 hours on a charge, it’s waterproof enough to withstand a brief submersion in water, and it supports Stack Mode for pairing two Marshall speakers.

The Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 is one of the top picks in our guide to the best Bluetooth speakers because it’s loud for its size and has decent sound quality. In addition, the integrated strap makes it easy to carry the one-kilogram music box anywhere.

Thanks to Prime Day, it’s just $42, down from $80 after 40 percent off and a $5 clickable coupon. This is a new all-time low, surpassing its Black Friday price. In our book, less than $50 for a decent music box is a pretty good deal.

SAMSUNG

Samsung’s Q990D soundbar set is the latest addition to our soundbar guide and scored an impressive 89 in our review earlier this year. It’s not a cheap home theater addition, normally going for $1,998, but Prime Day dropped the price to $1,498.

We like the immersive sound and the fact that it comes with a full surround sound setup in the box — pairing the soundbar with a large subwoofer and beefy rear speakers. In addition, the latest edition now supports HDMI 2.1, which provides 4K passthrough at 120 frames per second, which is important if you want to connect your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X directly to the soundbar.

Sony

Another soundbar from ours, , is at $TK for sale. Although listed at $1,400, it has been selling for $998 for most of the past few months. It’s our runner-up for premium soundtrack.

We love the immersive sound thanks to Dolby Atmos and Sony’s own 360 Sound Mapping. There are two HDMI eARC inputs that support HDMI 2.1, meaning you can connect multiple streaming boxes or game consoles. It also works with AirPlay 2.
